What to Expect from a Microneedling Session

What is Microneedling:

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure using the superficial insertion of fine needles into the dermis (outer layer) of your skin. The micro-damage caused by this insertion promotes the healing processes in your skin, increasing the production of collagen and elastin. Both collagen and elastin are proteins that help keep your skin firm and smooth. As we age, the levels of these proteins naturally decrease. A 2006 study showed an average collagen increase of 1000%. Also, in a recent study done on 120 patients, 100% of the participants noticed a 50% improvement in facial scars and wrinkles after just two sessions. Over 80% of the participants had a 50-75% improvement, and 65% noted a 75% improvement!

Benefits of Microneedling:

Microneedling helps reduce the appearance of:

-Enlarged pores

-Fine lines and wrinkles

-Loose, crepey skin

-Acne scars

-Skin discoloration

-Stretch marks

-Hair loss

What to Expect from a Microneedling Session:

When you come into the clinic for your microneedling session, I will ask you to thoroughly wash your face with Toma’s Rejuvenating Cleanser. I will then further clean your face with Witch Hazel, and apply a topical numbing cream. While the numbing cream takes effect, you have the option to receive acupuncture, allowing you to move fully into a relaxed state.

After about 20 minutes, I will remove the numbing cream and we will move to the microneedling section of the treatment. Your face should feel numb at this point; however, you may experience a slight pin-prick sensation on the more sensitive areas of your face (your forehead and nose).

To allow you skin to rest post-treatment, I will apply Toma’s Cooling Cucumber Mask. This mask will help reduce and redness or irritation. This will be followed by the Toma Peptide Eye Cream and the Toma Phyto Stem Cell Serum.

You will notice redness for the first 24-48 hours post treatment. After two weeks, you will notice that you skin looks firmer, smooth, and is glowing. I advise between 3 and 6 sessions to achieve maximal results. Each session is spaced a month apart to allow your skin to rest and recover.

Contraindications:

Please be advised that microneedling is not recommended if you are taking specific medications for acne, are on an anticoagulant or another blood thinner, are being treated for cancer with chemotherapy or radiation, or are pregnant.
